Scholarships to Support and Develop Women Leaders
The Change Our Game Scholarship Grants Program is now open for applications, and set to help more women access professional development opportunities to enhance their skills in leadership and management.
Scholarships of up to $10,000 are available to individuals and organisations via the Victorian Government’s Office for Women in Sport and Recreation (OWSR) to support women secure leadership positions in Victoria’s sport and active recreation sector.
OWSR Director Sarah Styles said, “The Change Our Game Scholarship Grants Program is another example of how the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation is breaking down barriers and providing opportunities for women and girls to follow their dream and reach their full sporting and leadership potential.”
Previous grant recipient Cassandra Hadson from Regional Sport Victoria said, “My intensive three-day leadership program taught me invaluable key leadership skills including communication strategies, change management and voice coaching. This opportunity has enabled me to be a more visible leader in the sector.”
Nominations are open to all recognised state sport and recreation bodies, local government authorities and regional sports assemblies, or individuals nominated by one of those bodies.
The scholarship program is tiered to ensure leadership opportunities are extended to women regardless of their experience, encompassing community sport volunteers right through to senior sport executives.
In addition to providing education, training and professional development opportunities, this round of the Program will also include a category specific to those women whose roles has been impacted by COVID-19, to ensure they are supported to adapt to workforce changes. This stream will provide career coaching or career counselling for anyone looking to identify transferrable skills, reskill or re-evaluate a career pathway in the sport and recreation sector.
Since the scholarship program was introduced in 2018, more than $1.1 million has been invested via 214 different grants, benefitting close to 400 Victorian women working and volunteering across all levels of the sport and active recreation sector.
