Making The Call - EOIs Now Open

Over the last decade we have seen a rise in the popularity, visibility and participation in women’s sport. Sport is central to the culture and conversations in Australia, and we know that media coverage can shape perceptions and influence social norms and gender stereotypes.
.

While we can see all-women sporting teams participating at the highest level of national competitions, we cannot see the same replicated in the commentary boxes. Women’s voices in sport must be amplified to achieve equity in sport. There is demand for more women’s voices in sport, and whilst opportunities exist in broadcast media, we recognise that the pathways are limited.

The Change Our Game Making The Call program is designed to give women who are interested in sports broadcasting, the information and experience to further their skills in this area.

The program is delivered both online and in-person (subject to any COVID-19 restrictions) and consists of five modules over three sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to access broadcasting mentors and are provided broadcasting tips from a team of industry experts.

From TV to radio, play-by-play, expert comments and broadcasting from the boundary/court side/on field, the program helps women determine where their interests lie and identify what their next steps might be.

By the end of the program, participants will have:

- A broader understanding of the broadcast media environment

- An understanding of the skills and resources required to work in broadcasting

- A network of industry experts and peers-

- A personalised plan for their next steps.
