A further 24 organisations delivering sport and recreation across the state are set to hold exciting new events thanks to the 2019-20 Change Our Game Community Activation Grants.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available to increase the capacity of community sport and recreation organisations to deliver events that promote gender equality.
Over 80 organisations have now benefited from this program and organised a range of events that showcase and celebrate the important role women and girls play in community level sport and recreation.
Director of the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, Dr Bridie O’Donnell welcomed the announcement.
“What makes this program so unique is the flexibility it provides the sector. We see a range of innovative ideas aimed at improving the environment for women and girls in sport and recreation across our State.’
The recipients of the first round of 2019-20 Change Our Game Community Activation Grants are as follows:
AFL Outer East | AFL Outer East Female Development Forum 2020 Facilitate an inaugural female development forum of the AFL Outer East. This will inspire women to contribute to club governance and recruit membership to a new women development advisory group. |
African Australian Multicultural Employment and Youth Services | Empowering refugee women and girls with sport Organising refugee women and girls' athletics and mentoring with Melbourne university staff and academics to dream big and be empowered. |
AUSCAMP | We Take the Mountain Beginner snowboarding camp for young women aged 12 -18. Full days of lessons with qualified instructors plus participation in development sessions designed to nurture individuality, confidence, autonomy and leadership. |
Australian Ultimate League | Empowering and promoting female athletes through the sport of Ultimate Host a Gender equity forum to share experiences and develop strategies around gender equality and inclusion. A dedicated filming of women athletes to showcase achievements of women and girls in Flying Disc to be used as promotional material to a wider online audience. |
Blackburn Newhope Football Club | Run a coaching skills clinic for women Promotion and organisation of a multi-session clinic to train and up-skill our women coaches and particularly women wanting to coach within the organisation to empower our women's football program. |
Bluebell Hill Tennis Club | Women's social tennis networking and planning night Host a night of tennis for women members to play tennis and to get to know each other with the aim to encourage the establishment of a regular women's social tennis night at the Club. |
Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association (BHRDCA) | Women in Cricket event A networking event aimed at showcasing pathways and opportunities for women in Cricket, providing education on issues facing women and girls in sport and providing a new approach to attract women and girls to play cricket. |
Brunswick Junior Football Club | A Sporting Chance - let's support and enhance A cross code breakfast networking event to bring lots of women in leadership roles, those aspiring to be part of the leadership in the future, in sporting clubs together to talk about playing to strengths, share knowledge and skills. Showcase and celebrate some successful approaches, promote gender equality and increase the quality of leadership in sporting clubs. |
Burwood Cricket Club | Female Engagement & Enrichment Program To host three key education sessions for administrators, parents and players of Clubs within their Association, focussing on key factors to create action plans on gender equality, leadership and empowerment through cricket. |
Bushrangers Basketball Victoria | Come Out & Play 2020 launch Bushrangers Basketball is launching its 2020 outreach program 'Come Out & Play' (aimed at engaging women and gender diverse players) with an exciting exhibition game and celebration. |
Diamond Valley Athletics | Diamond Valley Athletics - Be The Change A four step program to engage, support, and empower women within the Diamond Valley Athletics Clubs to become coaches, officials or join committees. It is anticipated that greater female engagement in these roles will assist in the growth of female participation |
Dalyston Football Club | Bass Coast Women and Girls Sports night A night to celebrate the sporting and leadership achievements of local women and girls. Empowering more women and girls to be more physically active and take on leadership roles at sports and active recreation organisations within the Bass Coast Area. |
Edinburgh Cricket Club | Edinburgh Cricket Club Women's and Girls' Gala Day Edinburgh Cricket Club will host its inaugural Women's and Girls' Gala Day. Leveraging the excitement of the Women's T20 World Cup and their unique strengths in women's coaching. All interested girls from the local surrounding primary and secondary schools are invited to a day of fun, playing, skills coaching, and skills demonstrations. |
Frankston Archery Club | Is Archery your sport? Come and Try A summer Twilight 2 hour come and try session on a Friday evening that focuses on junior girls trying a sport that is traditionally dominated by men. Their junior girls including an Australian representative to support instructors in the introduction of archery. |
Geelong Cricket Club | Sport & Life Training - Wellbeing A workshop for 30 female players, presented by SALT (Sport & Life Training), on mental health & resilience with a focus on female athletes and women in sport. |
Heidelberg United Football Club Limited | Change Our Game Women's National Premier Leagues Forum This will be a community forum that will invite all administrators, referees, coaches and players involved in the Victorian Women's National Premier League Competition to share experiences and develop collaborative strategies around inclusion. After three years they are seeing clubs face a lot of challenges that need to be discussed and addressed. |
Help Himalayan Youth Foundation | Empower Newly Arrived Young Refugee Women Through Sport Young Refugee women from Bhutanese, Nepalese and Karen (Myanmar) community and cultural stigma to play sports. This project will deliver AFL and Soccer trials and provide information with their parents that playing sports result in career pathways in Australia. Provide opportunity to meet with role model female players. |
Horsham Amateur Basketball Association | CBL Change our Game Round For our Horsham Hornets men and women representative basketball team that competes in the Country Basketball League we propose a Change our Game round. |
Morwell Bocce Club | Women Bocce - Bocce Game of Throw To increase the number of young women engaged in the Sport of Bocce, especially with the throwing events - the Progressive running Throw. |
Nestles Rowing Club Inc | The Lady Marmalade Project. The Lady Marmalade Project is targeted at middle aged women and beyond and aims to showcase our wonderful sport of rowing to older women. We hope to make our sport more accessible, and to increase participation and sporting opportunities for women of all abilities in our local community. |
Swell Mamas INC | Swell Mama's Women's Surfing Retreat To deliver a three day surfing retreat for 30 women. The retreat will empower women to get involved in surfing in an encouraging and supportive environment. It will include more than just surfing lessons, with opportunities for women to participate in tai-chi, Stand-up-paddleboarding, yoga and bushwalking. |
Upfield Soccer Club | Refugee Girls Can Play Soccer Our project will engage and recruit 50 young females of refugee backgrounds to the sport of soccer through: 3 'Come & Try Soccer' events; development of current female players to take on roles as mentors for new players; and networking of parents of current female players to support parents of new recruits |
Waverley Gymnastics Centre | This Girl Means Business Networking event for women 15+ years, including inspiring women within gymnastics/sporting industry, speed networking with management and sporting leaders, employment and training, providing opportunity for safe and inclusive interviewing for women of cultural backgrounds, returning to work or from underrepresented groups. |
Wyndham Basketball Association | Basketball, breakfast & leadership for CALD Wyndham females A come and try basketball days (10 hours) for CALD young females not currently engaged in basketball or sport. Also host a breakfast with key western suburbs female leaders involved i.e. presenting and / or panel discussions. Case studies and video content produced from activity 1 will be shown at the breakfast. |
Applications for the second round of the 2019-20 Change Our Game Community Activations Grants program open on Monday 17 February 2020 and close 16 March 2020.
