Grants To Get More Women and Girls in the Game
A further 104 community sporting organisations are set to benefit from the 2022-23 Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program, sharing in over $500,000 of funding collectively.
The program offers grants of up to $10,000 for initiatives that foster participation, build capability and celebrate women and girls in sport. This year, the funding was split into three streams; Attract and Participate, Capability and Leadership, and Celebrate and Elevate.
A variety of activities and initiatives have been funded, ranging from Soccer Mums programs offering weekly social, non-competitive soccer to their culturally and linguistically diverse community, to a monthly women-focused coaching development program to build confidence, technical skills and leadership for women volleyball coaches in Victoria.
Demand for Community Activation Grants has steadily risen since the program’s inception in 2018, with more than $2 million in funding provided to community sports organisations to date.
Successful recipient Broadmeadows Basketball Association will use its grant to run ‘No Hoopla’ - an initiative to provide “basketball for women, without all the fuss”. It aims to engage 400 women residing in one of Victoria’s most culturally diverse areas in three free, weekly and flexible basketball programs catering for all ages and abilities to address and overcome participation barriers.
Broadmeadows Basketball Association General Manager, Luke Lehmann, said “Women’s basketball is growing in popularity both at the community and elite levels. We’re so excited to utilise our Change Our Game funding to ensure women in the Broadmeadows region are part of that growth, and feel they can learn to play basketball in a safe and supportive environment”.
The Community Activation Grants Program is part of the Government’s $18.8 million investment in the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation and Change Our Game initiative.
From 1 May, the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation will commence directly notifying all applicants via email about the outcome of their application.
