More women supported to pursue sports media careers

Wednesday, 22 May 2024

Participants from diverse backgrounds across Victoria will be supported to make their mark and purse careers in sports media, through the 2023-24 Change Our Game Women in Sports Media Program.

The program will strengthen the knowledge and skills of participants whilst connecting them with industry representatives, to support them in taking the next step in their sports media career.

Facilitated by Emma Race and Lucy Race from Making The Call, participants are given tips and advice as well as the opportunity to access established mentors.

This year’s program develops understanding the sports media industry as well as practical skills in commentary and play-by-play as well as pitching and framing stories, interviewing and producing for all media platforms, such as radio, TV, online and podcasting.

Participants include Olympic alpine skier Greta Small, who is seeking to take her skills and career experience to the next level following past experience in media interviews, commentary, and hosting.

Vi Truong, another participant, is looking to pursue a career in sports media, building on her experience in media operations at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This program continues to support women interested in sports media, with the record interest showing more women are seeing themselves reflected in this critical part of the sport industry.
