Advancing the Career of Women in Sports Media

The 2024-25 Change Our Game Women in Sports Media Program is designed to provide women interested in sports media with the knowledge, skills and industry contacts to further progress their career in this industry.

The 2024-25 Program will offer an Advancing Career Round designed for individuals seeking to progress career goals and skills in sports media to the next level.

  •  

Delivered by industry experts Emma Race and Lucy Race from Making The Call, the Advancing Career Round aims to support participants to:

  •  

-     enhance and refine sports media skills, which may include commentary and calling play-by-play, producing for all media, presenting opinion pieces and research and preparation, and

-      develop industry contacts to support in securing paid employment in the industry.

  •  

By the end of the program, participants will have refined their sports media skills but developed industry connections and access to a support network, to support their career progression in the industry.

  •  

The Program continues the longstanding focus of the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation of increasing opportunities for women in sports media, emphasised by The Conversation of Sport report findings that only 27% of in sports news stories in Victoria in 2022-23 were able to be contributed by a woman.

To be eligible for the 2024-25 program, applicants must be a previous graduate of the Change Our Game Women in Sports Media Program (or introductory rounds of earlier versions of the program) or demonstrate exceptional relevant experience in sports media and/or sport industry knowledge. Applications from eligible individuals who are also from targeted or under-represented cohorts are strongly encouraged.
