Overview of the Community Activation Grants Program

The Victorian Government’s 2024-25 Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program, offered through the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, is supporting community level initiatives to enable participation, build capability and celebrate the role of women and girls in sport and active recreation.

This program will support clubs, associations and organisations to:

• build, connect and sustain the participation of women and girls in community sport and active recreation
• undertake education and training to strengthen capability and leadership in gender equality policy and practice and/or inclusion and representation of women and girls
• support women volunteering within community sport and active recreation to access professional development to develop as community leaders.

Grants of up to $10,000 are available, across 3 program streams, to support community sport and recreation clubs or organisations to deliver initiatives that aim to increase participation and enhance gender equality in sport and active recreation.

Applications that engage women and girls facing greater barriers to participation in community sport are strongly encouraged, including women and girls who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, with disability, in regional and rural communities, the LGBTIQA+ community and or from low socioeconomic areas.

All applications are encouraged to promote and elevate women and girls in sport and recreation.

To date, the program has supported clubs to deliver activities and events across a wide range of sports including basketball cycling, flying disc, hockey, surfing, table tennis and volleyball.

Now in its 8th year, the program has already funded 580 grants to community sport and active recreation clubs and organisations across the state.

Key messages

• The Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program supports community sport and active recreation clubs and organisations to enable participation, build capabilities, and develop leadership and celebrate women and girls, with grants of up to $10,000.
• Community Activation Grants support the engagement of women and girls from all backgrounds and experiences across Victoria. Join us in creating a more inclusive and vibrant sports community.
• The program has 3 funding streams:
• Stream 1 – Participation (up to $5,000 or up to $10,000)
• Stream 2 – Capability (up to $5,000 or up to $10,000)
• Stream 3 – Community Leaders (up to $5,000)
• Applications close 5pm AEDT, Wednesday 26 February 2025.
• Eligible organisations with proposed ideas to benefit women and girls in community sport, including community sports clubs and associations, regional sports assemblies, local governments, and state sporting associations, can apply.

Applications are now open for the 2024-25 Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program, to empower more women and girls as players and leaders in community sport and active recreation.

The program offers grants of up to $10,000 to support community sport and recreation clubs, associations or organisations deliver initiatives to enable participation, build capability and leadership and celebrate the role of women and girls in sport and active recreation.

The program also supports the Victorian Government’s Fair Access Policy Roadmap, to give women and girls fairer access to, and use of, community sports infrastructure.

Applications are encouraged to support the equitable inclusion of women and girls from all background and experiences and to promote and elevate women and girls in sport and recreation.

The program has 3 funding streams:
