FAQs

What organisations are eligible for this program?

For the Learning and Executive streams, Eligible Applicants, also known as Eligible Organisations, must submit an application on behalf of Eligible Candidates. Applications must be submitted by a senior representative/manager employed by an Eligible Applicant.

Organisations that are eligible to nominate eligible candidates include:

  • State Sporting Associations and other peak bodies recognised by Sport and Recreation Victoria
  • National Sporting Organisations recognised by Sport Australia
  • Local Government Authorities
  • Regional Sport Assemblies
  • Professional sporting club or leagues (defined as competing at the highest women’s and/or men’s domestic level competition for that sport in Australia)
  • Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and incorporated Aboriginal associations involved in sport and active recreation activities operating in Victoria.

Is there a limit to the number of applications an organisation can submit?

No, there is no application limit. Eligible Applicants, also known as Eligible Organisations, may submit more than one application but must not nominate the same Candidate for more than one Stream

I live in a border community and work in Victoria. Am I eligible for this program?

Great question! Eligibility may vary, and we would love to check that for you. Please contact changeourgame@sport.vic.gov.au to discuss this further, providing details of your residential and work addresses.

Does the application need to be submitted by my employer, or can I do it?

For the Next Generation and Governance streams, the application is submitted by the eligible Candidate (individual) seeking to complete the professional development opportunity.

For the Learning and Executive streams, applications need to be completed by a senior representative/ manager of an eligible organisation, which nominates the chosen eligible Candidate.

There is no limit to the number of applications an organisation can submit.

A Candidate Guidance Document is available to assist individuals to initiate conversations with their employers (or other eligible organisations), to assist in providing the information that is needed to complete the application on your behalf.

Do I have to supply supporting documents?

Letters of support are optional for the Next Generations and Governance streams. Letters of support and a sample brochure/ website demonstrating course cost for your nominated course/ activity are required for the Learning and Executive Streams.

Can volunteers be nominated for this program?

Volunteers can only be nominated for the Governance Stream of the Change Our Game Professional Development Scholarships Program.

If you are a volunteer and are seeking support with your learning, please consider applying for a Change Our Game Community Activations Grant when that program next opens.

Is the experience levels listed in each stream required to be within the sports industry?

Not necessarily. This experience can be within the workforce as a whole, however it is encouraged that most of the years of work are within or directly aligned with the sport and active recreation sector.

I am interested in the Learning stream. Does all my paid part-time work mean I have more than five years’ paid experience?

Not necessarily. This is a good example where common sense can be applied. For example, if you had a part-time job after school as a teenager, it is highly unlikely that you would count this towards your years of experience.

Is there a specific list of courses that candidates need to choose from when being nominated for the Executive or Learning streams?

No, there is not a specific list of courses or providers that are preferred. It is encouraged that candidates research courses that would be beneficial to their career goals and current areas of interest for professional development.

Candidates to the Learning stream are encouraged to consider specialist skill development courses relevant to their roles. Examples of courses supported in the past include communication and project management-related courses.

Candidates to the Executive Stream are encouraged to consider courses that will enhance the technical skills needed for senior leadership roles, such as strategy, negotiation and accounting/finance.
